Margaret Ann (Prime) Rockwell grew up in Freeport on Long Island, NS with family roots going back to the original Loyalist settlers. Following an idyllic childhood in the warmth and security of 1950s village life, Margaret left at eighteen to attend university (Acadia and Dalhousie) and to begin a teaching career in the city. After 32 years in a profession she continues to love, marriage, children and now grandchildren, Margaret remains appreciative of the place and the people who had such a strong and lasting influence.
Working in water-based oils and watercolours, Margaret draws inspiration from the beauty and drama of the natural world. A life-long learner, Margaret enjoys the process of creating as much as the product itself. In her art, Margaret tries to convey the sense of peace, awe, and continuity instilled in her by the land and sea. When painting, Margaret often finds herself contemplating the influence of nature on human character and connections. Margaret is a retired teacher and lives in Dartmouth, NS.
